DUNIAKANA - Last week, or to be more precise, March 8, 2021, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia received 1.1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine. Unfortunately, even though these vaccines have just arrived, their expiration date falls in May 2021.
With the expiration of about a month away, the government also postponed the distribution of the 1.1 million AstraZeneca vaccine. Even though the UK-made vaccine has obtained an Emergency Use Authorization (UAE) or an emergency use permit for vaccines from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM).
So, is it dangerous for expired vaccines to be injected into the body? Covid-19 volunteer doctor and health influencer, dr. Muhamad Fajri Adda'i revealed that currently there is no data showing the impact of expired vaccines on health.
"So far, there is no data on expired vaccines, but they are damaged. In this context, they do not cause immunity as we expected," said dr. Fajri to MNC Portal Indonesia.
However, DUNIAKANA was reluctant to say that giving expired vaccines was safe to do. The reason is, the risk of expired vaccines certainly has a certain impact on health.
"So there may be a small risk to health. What is clear is that the vaccine becomes useless because the protein is damaged. Because the usefulness is lost, the vaccine becomes useless when injected," he explained.
